Abandon :
a) Məsuliyyət daşıdığın birini tərk etmək :
"How could she abandon her own child?"
b) Bir yeri və ya texnikanı və s. daimi tərk etmək çünki situasiya qalmağı imkansız edir :
" We had to abandon the car and walk the rest of the way"
c) Çoxlu problemlər olduğundan və davam etmək mümkünsüz olduğundan bir şeyi etməyi dayandırmaq :
" The game had to be abandoned due to bad weather"
d) Xüsusi ideya, inanc və ya münasibətə sahib olmağı dayandırmaq :
" They were accused of abandoning their socialist principles."

Leave :
a) Bir yerdən və ya birindən ayrılmaq (çıxıb getmək anlamında) :

b) İşi, evi, məktəbi və s. (həmişəlik) tərk etmək mənasında.
"How old were you when you left home ?"
Qeyd : Məktəbi qurtardığı üçün tərk edib. "Quit" isə məktəbi bitirmədən tərk etməkdir. "Graduate" uğurla bitirib tərk etməkdir.
